Goods and Services | Accreditation of educational, credentialing, and compliance programs used by hospitals, vendor credentialing companies, and medical device manufacturers to manage the access, conduct, and oversight of Healthcare Industry Representatives (HCIRs). The VERA-Accredited™ designation certifies that a program meets established national standards and proprietary guidelines developed by VERA, informed by ISO/IEC 17065, ISO/IEC 17024, ASTM E2659, ANSI/NEMA SC 1-2019, ANSI/NEMA SC 1-2020, and other evolving regulatory frameworks. Eligible programs include hospital vendor credentialing systems, medical device company training and IFU registries, surgical tray management protocols, vendor passport systems, and certified medical device representative databases. Programs must demonstrate capability to prepare individuals for CHIR (Certified Healthcare Industry Representative) and CMDR (Certified Medical Device Representative) certification as part of the VERA-Certified™ framework. Accreditation is overseen by a federally listed Patient Safety Organization (PSO) and is aligned with the CMS 2025 Final Rule on patient safety, as well as expectations set by CMS-deemed accrediting bodies such as The Joint Commission and DNV. VERA does not accredit hospitals directly, but evaluates and accredits the internal programs within these institutions that govern non-hospital representatives and impact patient safety. Accredited programs may also contribute to future billing transparency systems by linking representative credentialing, certification, and training data with EMR systems, REP Numbers, and purchasing records. This framework may also support the creation of a national hospital value analysis program to enhance GPO functionality and facilitate the development of an e-commerce GPO (eGPO) model that improves price transparency and reimbursement accountability in connection with certified representative activities. |
