Protruding out toward the left of the ampersand is a piston on a connecting rod, with the piston being the far left component of the row. Protruding out toward the right of the ampersand is a single blade of an airplane propeller. In regards to this overlapping, the connecting rod is the bottom component, with the blade overlaying it.
