Certification Mark Statement | The use of the certification mark is intended to indicate that the services in association with which it is used are of the following defined standard: That the services are performed by the following class of person having attained the following level of proficiency: Membership in good standing in the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association is required and, in addition, a member must possess a graduate degree or equivalent in counselling or a related professional field from a Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association recognized higher education institution showing evidence of successful completion of graduate course work in: i) Counselling Theory (compulsory); and ii) Supervised Counselling Practicum (compulsory); and successful completion of graduate course work in any six of the following areas: iii) Communication and Relationship Skills; iv) Group Counselling; v) Theory of Career Development; vi) Assessment and Testing; vii) Research and Evaluation; viii) Consultation Methods; ix) Learning and Human Development; x) Psychological Education; xi) Counselling Intervention Strategies; xii) Gender Issues; xiii) Multi- Cultural Counselling; xiv) Counselling in Specialized Settings (families, rehabilitation, schools, disabled clients, etc.); xv) Professional Ethics, in order to earn the certification. Initial certification is for three (3) years and it is the responsibility of each certified counsellor to maintain certification every three (3) years thereafter by meeting the following requirements: i) The certified Counsellor must complete twenty-four (24) Continuing Education Credits in a relevant counselling area before the certification expiration date: OR ii) The certified counsellor must submit official university, college or continuing education transcripts to the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association National Office at least three months prior to the certification expiration date; AND iii) Maintain the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association membership throughout. |
